September is Hunger Action Month, a time for food banks across the United States to rally together in the fight against hunger. At Second Harvest Food Bank, we mark this important month with our annual Harvest Breakfast fundraiser, where we focus on advocating for and educating our community about food insecurity in our tri-county service area.

Each year, more than 300 community members gather at Clark State College for a buffet breakfast and a keynote presentation from national and regional hunger relief leaders, including Feeding America executives, as well as local heroes working in our community to feed our neighbors. Every year, the event highlights a different aspect of food insecurity — previous topics have included Food as Health, Childhood Hunger, and Senior Programs.

This year’s theme, Beyond the Meal: Stories That Nourish Us, gave us an opportunity to share the stories of our neighbors, partners, volunteers and supporters who help bring our mission to life. Spoken-word artist and storyteller, Laurent Che, served as the voice of our Second Harvest brand anthem, helping capture the heart of our mission through his words and creative perspective.
